The Church of St Egidio is part of the medieval Hospital Santa Maria Nuova in the heart of historic Florence.
It was founded in 1289, but it was later reconstructed. In 1419, the Church was reconsecrated by Pope Martin V.
The tabernacle below is the work of Bernardo Rossellino and Lorenzo Ghiberti. It was constructed in 1450. It is made of marble with an Annunciation by Bernardo Rossellino. The bronze door with Christ is by Lorenzo Ghiberti.
Unfortunately, for reasons of security, the door on site is a copy.
