Christians take on Big Brother

Italian TV (RAI) is hosting a marathon session of the reading of the Bible(from the beginning: Genesis, to the very end: Apocalypse) from Sunday 5th October to Saturday 11th October.

It is taking place at the Bailica of Santa Croce in Gerusalemme in Rome.

The Pope started the first reading. The Secretary of State (Bertoni) will finish with the last reading from the Book of Apocalypse.

More than 1200 people from different backgrounds, religions, ages will take their turn to read.

Included will be Catholic, Orthodox, Evangelicals, and members of the Bible Society in Italy. For certain parts of the Old Testament, members of the Jewish community will also participate.

Pope Benedict XVI spoke about the event after reciting the Angelus with thousands of pilgrims gathered in St. Peter’s Square in the Vatican on 5th October 2008. He said, “This event is a fitting accompaniment to the Synod of Bishops on the Word of God.

“The Word of God can thus enter into homes to accompany the lives of families and single persons: a seed that, if properly welcomed, will not fail to bear abundant fruit."

The website of the event (in Italian) is La Bibbia Giorno e notte (The Bible: Day and Night)

Much better than Big Brother !
