The attempt to sabotage the visit of Pope Benedict XVI to the United Kingdom has begun.
Father Tim Finigan of The Hermeneutic of Continuity discusses one recent line of attack in a left wing broadsheet newspaper. More importantly he rebuts line by line the hysterical attack.
The main line of attack seems to be try to associate Pope Benedict personally with a lack of activity against priests and other religious who were abusing young children. The attack is emotional and provokes an emotional response gainst the Holy Father. It is gutter journalism.
No doubt there are going to be more of such attacks. One only has to recall the recent ridicule on the visit of the relics of St Thérèse of Lisieux to England.
One has to be vigilant and rebut these accusations.
