Rodolfo Papa is another celebrated present day religious artist.

He is an art historian, author, painter and sculptor. He is also, by pontifical appointment, an official at the pontifical academy for fine arts and literature, overseen by the Pontifical Council of Culture, the Pontificia Insigne Academia Bellas Artes y Letras de los Virtuosos del PanteĆ³n. He is also President of l'Accademia Urbana delle Arti in Rome.

He has also written extensively on Caravaggio

His output is quite prodigious. Does he sleep ?

His official website is here.

His Reflections on the Fundamentals of Sacred Art (in Italian as a .pdf file) should be a prescribed text.

The diocese of Bojano (near Campbasso in Italy) dates back to about AD 510. The ancient Cathedral dates back to about 1073.

It was greatly damaged in the Second World War.

From 1943 to 2000 it remained in a damaged state. Restoration work started in 1993. Papa carried out the fresco work in the Cathedral from 2000 -2003.

The above images illustrate his work in the cupola.

His website also has images of his other frescoes in the Cathedral.
