I think "Christ Consoling the Wanderers" is a different painting by Tissot that is now at the Hermitage in St. Petersburg.
It seems that "Christ Consoling the Wanderers" may have been Tissot's first religious work -- that led thim down the path to his "Life of Christ" illustrated Bible series (of which the painting above is the pinnacle).
Are you certain about that "alternative title"?

ReplyDeleteI think you are correct. I`ll need to look at the matter again. Thank you for pointing this out.

ReplyDeleteYou are definitely correct. I`ve made the change.
Now the question is: why did I do it ? After a year I`ve simply no idea.
I see that Brooklyn Museum have a special exhibition on just now regarding Tissot`s illustrated Bible series. Hopefully it will be well publicised.
